We once got rid of nearly everything we owned and lived in a
1973 Winnebago Brave. We can handle small spaces. Our ultimate goal, once the
babies are all grown and have moved out, is to set ourselves up with a tiny
one-room cabin in the woods. That’s where we’ll be when we aren’t on the road.
Some days I get very much attracted to the thought of that
old life and just want to throw everything out and take off with our kids in
some kind of fabulous trailer. I know that isn’t realistic right now, with a
three-week-old, but I do think God will make it happen for us in the future if
it’s the right thing for us to do.
This book, which is mostly just explaining how unhappy stuff
actually makes us and how much better it is to value relationships,
experiences, and memories over things, definitely brought those feelings out
again.
I don’t want to spend all my time dusting the junk in our
house, washing the many dishes, folding the many clothes. I just want to have a
little bit, just the things we need, and spend the rest of my time enjoying my
beautiful family.
If you ever look around and feel overwhelmed by your clutter
and underwhelmed by your life, definitely check out The More of Less!
Favorite quote: “…remember
that your happiness does not depend on your acquisition of any possession. Your
happiness is based solely on your decision to be happy—and that may be one of
the most important life lessons you can ever learn.”

this is exactly what my husband and I want to do as well. the goal is to move into a travel trailer on the beach once my youngest have graduated high school. do you listen to podcasts? I started listening to this one called Optimal Living Daily and he reads a TON of stuff from various minimalists, including the author of that book! It's an easy listen, they are usually 5 minutes long. :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds lovely! I'm more of a woods person but a woodsy lake beach? Ahhhh, perfection!
DeleteI don't really listen to podcasts because I have trouble finding any I can download and listen to later. I'll see if I can with that one. =]
