Mom/Preacher.

We mamas are a million things at once, aren’t we? We are teachers and doctors and chefs and maids and chauffeurs. We are a million things at once and I sometimes feel a little overwhelmed when I think that preacher is really my most important role.

I never want faith to take a backseat in our home. I want my children to live faith. I want it to not matter if we move so far into the woods that we only go to church a few times a year because their life is church.

I feel like I’m doing a pretty decent balance of that right now. On the Sundays we don’t go to church, I usually don’t even feel much guilt. We’re worshipping and studying and fellowshipping all week long. We’re listening to praise and worship music (even if it’s usually sung by Veggietales!), we’re fellowshipping with like-minded friends and hanging out at Vacation Bible School and Awana, and we’re doing allllll kinds of reading.

We always start our day with a morning devotional. I usually read my own before I even get out of bed in the mornings, and then I read my children their devotional at the breakfast table. We often read a storybook with a spiritual emphasis in it but we definitely read something Biblical every day. Sometimes it’s a few verses from my Bible, sometimes it’s their Jesus Storybook Bible, and sometimes it’s one of the smaller Bible story books we have.

We’ve just added a new book to our library and I couldn’t be happier with the way it portrays the gospel.

Wow! The Good News in Four Words is a great story-version that sums up the gospel in a way that is engaging and kid-friendly. It moves from creation to the first sin to God choosing to save us by sacrificing himself as a man, Jesus. Both of my kids liked the illustrations (the one below was B’s favorite!) and the book held the attention of both of them quite easily, even though I expected it to be a little too long for B.

A said he liked the part about Heaven. He’s been really bothered lately by the idea of death and this seemed like a real comfort to him. 

B loved the illustrations and flipped through it again twice afterwards before announcing that her favorite page was the lion page.

We received a free copy of this book from Tyndale House in exchange for an honest review, and my honest review is that I think it’s a really perfect book to add to your kiddo’s library. My children are two and four (and one), and even though I think it would probably be perfect for kids 6ish to 8ish years old, both of them were definitely happy with this book.
