Book Review: Children’s Gospel Bible

We normally read a Bible story every day. Sometimes it might be paragraph-long story from the baby’s board book of Bible stories and sometimes it’s a long and detailed story but it’s important to me so I work hard to make it happen each day. We often talk about the story afterwards, and look for ways our own lives are similar to the stories. We sometimes color a related page from a Bible-themed coloring book when we’re done. Bible stories are a fun part of our routine around here.

I have probably averaged two a week since all this tachycardia stuff got so intense so that has been a big bummer, but the bright side of it was that we had a new-to-us book to read them from, The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible by Jared Kennedy.

We’ve read a few different Bible story books around here and have a few favorites for various reasons, but right now this is my top choice for this age group. The stories are short and simple enough that 18-month-old C sits still through them, end with a discussion question that keeps 4.5-year-old A very interested and piques 2.5-year-old B’s interest. The illustrations are simple and cartoony, and all three of my kids like them.

All of those are huge pluses in my book, but perhaps my favorite thing is the number of stories inside. It seems like every children’s Bible talks about all the major kid favorites (creation, Noah, Jonah, David & Goliath, Daniel & the Lions, Jesus’ birth, a miracle or two, and Jesus loving children) but don’t often have a whole lot of the other important stories mixed in. This one does. This one has so many stories! I was so happy to read the one about Rebekah offering Abraham’s servant water for his camels because that is never in children’s Bibles!

The intended age range isn’t listed on the back of this Bible so take my recommendation with a grain of salt, but I would personally say it’s perfect for an age group of 2-6. Six might be a stretch so I’m sorry for that, I can only assume since we aren’t quite there yet!

*I received a free copy of this book from LitFuse in exchange for a completely honest review.

Thanks so much for your comments! I always read them, don't always have time to answer quickly. Sorry about that!
